We seriously doubt that you’ll easily exhaust all the Brighton city centre has to offer, but it'd be a shame to spend all your time in the hustle and bustle when there's so much gorgeous countryside to explore too. For a whiff of country air, or just a change of scene grab your bike, borrow a car or peruse the bus timetables and you’ll soon be gadding about.

There’s an endless list of attractions, but we do suggest popping along to a few of the picturesque rural villages like Alfriston or Ditchling which have definite chocolate-box appeal with low-beamed pubs and traditional tea rooms. You can reveal the hidden treasures of Sussex and uncover windmills, cathedrals, castles, opera houses and country manors.

Take the open-topped bus and a picnic up to Devil’s Dyke, follow the Seven Sister’s cliff-top trail or saddle-up for a hack on horseback!

Talking of horses, you can watch the professionals and have a day at the races with Plumpton & Brighton Racecourse on hand. Hickstead’s world-class showground is host to some of the top equestrian events - the home of British showjumping.

Opera buffs can pack a hamper and take off to Glyndebourne with performances every night over Summer.
