Brighton Women's Centre has been a major resource for the city's women from all walks of life for a number of years and its recent move to the St James's Street area of Brighton will go a long way to improving access to its wide range of services.
The Centre provides support and information for all women, irrespective of age and background in the form of a relaxed drop-in/open-door service. Counselling is also available by appointment at low cost, along with complementary therapies and internet access. The Women's Centre also provides créche facilities and room hire to local groups for meetings.
At Pride in Brighton & Hove 2006, the Brighton Women's Centre will be presenting the Women's Performance Tent, featuring a diverse line-up of local and international women artists with everything from blues to rap during the afternoon on Preston Park. This is a great example of some of the vibrant and unique community activities and events undertaken by the Centre.
From September, the New Beginnings Creative Project will offer women a lively introduction to creative skills, through workshops in creative writing to spoken word and vocal performance tutored by local women artists leading to compilation of a creative writing anthology and participation in a performance event at a Brighton venue.
Brighton Women's Centre is always on the lookout for volunteers and offers comprehensive volunteer training. The Centre relies on fundraising and grants and any help in supporting this vital organisation is very gratefully received.
