west pier... still standing...just
Love it or loathe it, the West Pier is still here. Just. Brightoners (and Hove-ers) have long got used to seeing the crumbling wreck disintegrating into the choppy waters. Over the last decade the demise of the Grade I listed building has been more spectacular than usual...
Is it natural causes that is pulling it rapidly sea-ward? We're not so sure. You make up your own mind as you peruse the photos!
Things are looking up now. Plans are underway for the design and construction of a state of the art viewing pod. The i360 is being created by the people behind the London Eye and hope are that this project will create much needed funds for the old West Pier to emerge from the wreckage.

West Pier and the i360
Monday, 12th November 07
Those of us that live in Brighton & Hove will have paid little attention to the rumours that the West Pier was, once again, due to be restored to its former glory...
Apparently, so the story goes this time, someone has recognised that the forthcoming i360 doughnut-on-a-stick will draw quite a crowd to the area... in which case the crowd can probably be fleeced for a few extra quid to take a stroll along the pier as well. This seems to make some sense.

A Pier Appears... If you happened to be braving the icy breeze on the seafront tonight then you may have stumbled across a bit of art in the making at the ever crumbling remains of the West Pier. |

| Samwell | "I know it's crumbling into the sea and is a complete eyesore - but somehow Brighton just won't be quite the same when it goes... if it ever goes!" |
