If were looking to encapsulate the true essence of Brighton in one venue, we reckon you may well end up with The Hanbury Club.
Maybe it's the 1920's ballroom glamour of the interior with an up to date vibe that sets the tone, or the very localised feel to it. Perhaps it's the mix of Indian and Oriental architectural features, including a magnificent dome, that echoes the iconic Brighton Pavilion or it's location just a few yards from the seafront. Or it might be the great mix of entertainment, from Salsa to live bands to burlesque evenings or drag queen hosted cabaret nights that spotlights the heart of the city on it's stage. Whatever it is, the venue is without a doubt a jewel in the city's crown.
The beautifully restored building has a fascinating history, originally built as a Mausoleum in the late nineteenth century by the Sassoon family and has since served a number of purposes, including air raid shelter during WW2 and, joined with the Hanbury Arms next door in the fifties, an event and entertainment venue serving the local Kemp Town area.
Recently taken over by Brighton dream team, Amanda Blanch and Chris Edwardes, who are the brains behind the internationally renowned Blanch House, the Hanbury has emerged as a venue that really can claim to have it all. The perfect place for after-work drinks, an intimate supper or a night of partying... there is something for everyone!
The Hanbury Club is also a unique venue for hire offering a sensational space to organisers of corporate events, glitzy product launches, private dinner functions and, of course, Wedding & Civil Partnership celebrations. The venue is licensed to hold civil ceremonies so you can have the whole event under one roof. You really can't get much more impressive than this - and the team are on hand to guide you through the organisation and running of your event to make it extra special.
