The Claude Nicol Centre & Lawson Unit
Regular sexual health screening is undoubtedly a good idea for any sexually active person of whatever sex or sexual persuasion. Many STIs (sexually transmitted infections) can go unnoticed and can often cause long term health problems if they remain untreated for long periods.
The Claude Nicol Centre provides free screening services, advice and treatment for people who either have symptoms of, or believe they have been in contact with sexually transmitted infections... they also provide advice for anyone with concerns about any aspect of their sexual health. You can reach them on 01273 664721.
For many people being screened for HIV can be a traumatic experience if you believe you have ever put yourself at risk of infection. Trained staff at the centre will discuss your concerns with you before being screened and you won't be left to deal with your results alone.
The Lawson Unit, on the ground floor of outpatients at the Royal Sussex, provides services for those with HIV and is one of the largest HIV departments in the UK - with an international reputation for clinical care and research. They can be reached on 01273 664722.
All services are free and confidential - you can refer yourself to the clinic without going through your GP and your notes will not be passed to your GP unless you have agreed to this.
Walk in appointments at the Claude Nicol are available on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8.30am to 10.30am with appointments also available Monday to Friday - please click here for more details of when you can make use of the clinic's services.
Wait time at the walk-in clinics can be long at busy times, so take a good book.
