R-Bar
Having undergone a complete transformation, R-Bar is now a sleek and slick bar restaurant with a lean towards the chic. The design is one that has a clearly defined wow-factor as contemporary style meets a certain camp tongue-in-cheek. This is perfectly demonstrated with the marvellously flamboyant, 'Le Cottage' neon signing the directions to the toilets, and the even more outrageous 'open smiles' of the latrines themselves.
Whilst downstairs is spacious, with bare brick walls bedecked with plasma screens, long bar and a number of tables that look out onto the busy seafront, the split level mezzanine has it's own bar and more intimate feel. In fact, there is a small VIP lounge, perfect for small private gatherings (it even has it's own system for calling over the bar staff to serve drinks in situ). Swathes of rich purple fabric adorn the walls, giving the impression of the old-school cabaret bar, with quilted leather upholstered walls and doors - this is a gentleman's club that Mr Coward would have loved to hold court in. All your favourite tipples are readily available, with an extensive line in cocktails. Foodwise, there is something to excite most palates with a mix of pubby-style grub with brasserie twists. The menue promises good quality food, freshly prepared - and there's plenty of it. As the pre-club bar to Revenge, there are often opportunities to grab hold of some free or discounted entry passes to the big club and there are often drinks promotions to keep the wallet happy. as recommended by...
