Pride in Brighton & Hove provides training

Monday, 10th January 05

Pride in Brighton & Hove provides training to voluntary organisations running events. Part funded through Brighton & Hove City Council's Global Grant scheme, the project will assist groups to run events, particularly during the Pride festivals. It will also develop readily transferable skills.

"Voluntary sector organisations rely heavily on fundraising activity and events," says Rob Burlace the project co-ordinator. "They are often imaginative and innovative with fundraising ideas. However, they sometimes have difficulty in seeing a project through from idea to delivery."

The course will examine the resources needed for an event, where to find them and how to use them. It will promotes planning, budget and control skills and how to anticipate and plan out problems. It aims to encourage and develop individuals' team building and working skills. All of these are readily transferable workplace skills.

The course is open to those who work or volunteer for local voluntary sector organisations, particularly those serving the LGBT community.

"Quite often people use their volunteering to help them back into paid work and beyond. We see the skills that can be acquired and developed through the event management course as greatly enhancing their opportunities and choices for progression," Rob says.

Up to 80 delegates from a wide variety of groups will be accommodated during the first programme of courses to be run in spring 2005. Should you be interested in participating in or supporting the programme please contact Rob Burlace.
