Pride Fundraising Update

Wednesday, 9th September 09

PRIDE FUNDRAISING UPDATE

Following the announcement last month that Pride in Brighton & Hove had identified a potential financial deficit of £50,000 this year the fundraising appeal got off to a very promising start with over £1,000 donated in under a week. Thank you to everyone who has donated since the plea but this is the tip of the iceberg and despite the initial online activity things have slowed down putting the total raised in three weeks to £2,816.35.

The countdown is on with just 15 weeks to the end of the year Pride in Brighton & Hove needs your help and donations now. As Yvonne Barker, Chair of Pride in Brighton & Hove said last month “The message is clear, if we are unable to raise sufficient funds to cover the expected shortfall, we will need to seriously scale back next year’s Pride festivities and reduce the support we are able to give to local LGBT community groups.”

In the coming weeks Pride will be announcing lots of exciting fundraising initiatives and events to keep this appeal high on everyone’s mind and in this release we are delighted to announce a partnership with White Air as well as four local business fundraising events…

White Air supports Pride

Pride is delighted to announce that White Air, Europe’s largest extreme sports festival are showing their support by setting up an exclusive Pride promotional link on Ticketmaster where people can buy discounted weekend, Friday/Saturday or Sunday tickets. And, for every ticket sold through this link White Air will make a donation to Pride in Brighton & Hove**. Judith Manson, Pride’s Fundraising and Communications Manager said ‘This is a great offer to both ticket buyers and Pride, we are delighted to work with White Air in its first year on the coast, they have a fantastic line up over three days and two huge nights, the likes of which Brighton has never seen before’ she added ‘With the collapse of Beachdown, Loop and the recent question mark over the comedy festival its very important that we work together and help each other in these difficult times, like Pride White Air is just what Brighton is about, we should all support it so it is not only a fantastic event this year but every year in the Brighton calendar’.

And it's not all just about sports. Music is of equal standing and the line-up represents some of the very best indie talent, namely: Doves, Biffy Clyro, the Cribs, White Lies, British Sea Power, the Lemonheads, the Boxer Rebellion and Sky Larkin. In addition to these, a local line-up will take to the stage on the Sunday to showcase Brighton's fantastic musical talent.

Pride in Brighton & Hove

       I.            Pride is a celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) lives to which everyone is welcome.  We use the carnival parade and main park event to showcase the diversity and contribution that all people make as part of the LGBT community of Brighton and Hove and spread the message that sexual and gender discrimination are not acceptable. We believe homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and discrimination of any kind against LGBT people in Brighton and Hove or elsewhere have no place in today’s society.

II.            Pride is a registered charity run by a board of voluntary trustees and a small staff team and supported by hundreds of volunteers. We work throughout the year to deliver the carnival parade and main park event, as well as other education and awareness raising activities and events.
