Golden Handbag Awards
The Golden Handbag Awards has become Brighton's very own gay Oscars, raising money for good causes and recognising people and organisations within the Brighton LGBT scene.
Established in 1995 by Gscene's James Ledward, the annual event has now raised over £100,000 - making it the largest single fundraiser for LGBT causes in Brighton. Whilst the evening is intended, first and foremost, as a fundraiser it's perhaps unsurprising that the way there is often fierce campaigning to canvass votes in some of the categories.
REALBrighton has been supporting the awards for the last seven years by photographing, running the online voting and supporting the event on the day with an increasingly fabulous screenshow!
