The route has been extended after pressure from Pride and from local gay councellors. Simon William (Green Party) has been working alongside Pride and the Police to get approval for the change: "The new route will take the fun and colour of the Pride parade into the heart of the city... Visibility is vital for the LGBT community and the new route will help to remind the rest of the city that we are an important part of its life." David Harvey, the Chair of Pride, was also in high spirits: "it's fitting that with city status we look to enhance the route of the carnival parade to maximise its impact which will draw more spectators in years to come and increase the economy to the city for that day." The extended route will, without a doubt, be hard to ignore as it winds its way through the commercial heart of Brighton. If you haven't already started planning your float then don't wait any longer! The theme, in case you hadn't heard, is The Hit Parade. Stiltwalkers and heavey-costume-wearers beware though... there are a couple of hills to negotiate now!
