Wild Fruit's 15th Anniversary CD

Wild Fruit - The 15th Year Anniversary CD - is a corker!

Wild Fruit's 15th Anniversary CD

Thursday, 15 November 2007

Monday isn't traditionally a day of action. Too much Fruit from the night before, rebellious behaviour and, well, what are Mondays for except dialling for takeaways and DVD consumption? So it was odd yet strangely enjoyable to find ourselves back on the Wild Fruit dancefloor come November 5th. The fireworks confined to outside that night, as Wild Fruit’s The 15th Anniversary CD took hold of Real City Network's hi-fi.

Marking a decade and half of pure party decadence, this free album from Aeon has all the hallmarks of a Fruity production. Handsome, stylish and beautifully packaged it’s a go-go boy of a CD. Easy on the eye, even easier on the ear - its three mixes from residents Mr Haywood, Neil Duffie and Dulcie Danger hit the spot perfectly. But what else did we expect?

Haywood excels at the euphoric on CD one – all hands in the air 'cos you “can’t get enough”. If any DJ on the Brighton scene is responsible for breaking in the new, raising the standards we expect and delivering year on year, it’s Haywood. Electro house, The Freemasons, fucking hell even Faithless’s ‘Insomnia’ first etched their way into our clubbing subconsciousness thanks to the man we call Pete. Looks like the Real City neighbours are in for a noisy Monday evening.

Then it was Duffie. Speak to this most passionate of DJs and you know within minutes it’s all about the tunes for him. He smiles that much in the DJ box because he’s lovin' it. And his mix for the Wild Fruit 15th Anniversary CD ensures we’re lovin' it too. Upfront - is Duffie anything else? - and beautiful, Neil takes Wild Fruit’s trademark sound and twists it. Just a little but with the kind of perfection most DJs would kill for. There’s talk of his unsung hero status but with this mix perfectly capturing his years of mighty service to the greater Fruit it’s time to lose the former. He’s just simply one hero of decent house.

And so to Miss Danger. Her contribution to the mix has everything you would expect from an award winning DJ. As every clubber on a Danger(ous) dancefloor will tell you it "sure feels good to me" and so it is again here as Dulcie brings the funk, the filth and the house together seamlessly. First there was Jack but second - as far as Brighton is concerned - there was Dulcie. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. A mix of worth from a DJ worthy of her status, Dulcie Danger captures in her mix for this 15th Anniversary CD everything that’s so sound about Wild Fruit. Feel. The. Love.

And so should you after two hours in the company of this Wild Fruit CD. It is a true celebration of Brighton’s foremost gay parties. The generosity shown with this give-away and the class with which it is delivered say it all really. It’s a real reflection of the club; the presentation, the attention to detail, the vision of promoter Paul Kemp, the quality guest and resident DJ line-ups, those go-go boys, that hostess, its brilliant themes and most importantly you, the Wild Fruit clubbers. And we can’t get enough. Here’s to the next 15 years!
