The work to remember continues

Tuesday, 19 February 2008

The work to remember continued this month as Cllr Paul Elgood, Simon Burgess, Cllr Brian Oxley and Cllr Bill Randall handed in the planning application to Brighton & Hove City Council for the Aids Memorial.

The application is for Romany Mark Bruce's two intertwined figures and will be located at the north of New Steine. Cllr Paul Elgood said of the planning application, “We are absolutely delighted that the project has progressed to this stage, and we hope that the final piece of art is something which the community will be proud of. It has certainly been a long road to date and I would like to thank all those who have helped the project get to this stage.' Romany Mark Anthony’s sculpture was chosen to be Aids Memorial after a public vote in 2007 and will be a modern, landmark sculpture which as the centre piece of a memorial, which will be a place of reflection and remembrance.

It is hoped that the artwork will be installed by World AIDS Day 2008.
