Phil Starr dies
Brighton mourns the loss of legendary cabaret performer

Phil Starr dies

Wednesday, 19 October 2005

It is with great sadness that we report Phil Starr's death yesterday afternoon. Phil was hugely loved by so many people in Brighton and far beyond. There was a great sense of shock around town last night as people try to come to terms with such a loss.

Everyone's sympathies will, we're sure, go out to his partner, Perry, and his close friends.

We invite you to add your thoughts and comments to this page.

Phil every bit the Star, A Legend in a league of his own.
The panto will never be the same.
My thoughts go out to Perry and all his friends.
I think Betty Swallocks Summed Phil up the best yesterday when she sung "Simply the Best" Phil you Were Simply the Best.

Mr Phil Starr, A wonderful, Talented man, I have the pleasure in being able to say I knew.
Well loved on the Scene, his magical sparkle for making an audience laugh, whilst still laughing at his own jokes will be missed. God Bless you Phil, a very large void in our lives has been left, they certainly don't make them like you anymore..........Reece xxxx

I first got to know Phil properly last year when doing an interview with him for 3SIXTY.

Such a warm hearted, kind and entertaining guy who had time for everybody.

Phil really was proof that you are never old until you let yourself get old.

He will be greatly missed but even more greatly remembered.

A real Super Starr.

My sympathies go to his partner, family and close friends.

I have been fortunate enough to have worked with what I like to call true greats i.e. Regina Fong, Dock Yard Doris, Lee Paris and Phil was no exception. My thoughts are with his family and close friends.
Well done Phil you did us proud.

What is our life? A play of passion,
Our mirth the music of division,
Our mother's wombs the tiring-houses be,
Where we are dressed for this short comedy.
Heaven the judicious sharp spectator is,
That sits and marks still who doth act amiss.
Our graves that hide us from the setting sun
Are like drawn curtains when the play is done.
Thus, march we, playing to our latest rest,
Only we die in earnest, that's no jest.

it's difficult to express the loss the cabaret scene had experienced on Tuesday i only spoke to Phill last week to confirm the booking for the sauna christmas party and yet again after talking to Phill i came away from the phone literally crying with laughter.
the sauna parties will never be the same again and the cabaret scene has lost a true star. god bless you Phill
