Brighton & Hove will be feeling the pride this August as Brighton and Sussex Sexualities Network (BSSN) host their Feelings Of Pride Conference on Friday 1st August 2008.
This event aims to bring together the "multiple possibilities of Pride", moving between pride as a feeling or emotion through to Pride as the annual LGBT festival and political movement. The event takes place the Friday before Brighton Pride week - the day before the parade and park events - and they're hoping it will prove lively and stimulating.
The conference is a chance to celebrate LGBT identities and histories as well as using key speakers such as Sara Ahmed from Ourstory (Brighton's LGB history project) to introduce interactive workshops. Sally Munt and Al Start are also amongst the confirmed speakers so far.
Places are limited so they recommend you book early to get in there. To register for the conference or for further information email Kath Browne
. Registration covers entry to the conference and all refreshments (lunch isn't laid on, but there are plenty places to eat in the area). The deadline for booking places is Friday 20th June 2008.
The conference is being organised by the Brighton and Sussex Sexualities Network (BSSN) which seeks to bring together a range of people who are interested in sexualities research. BSSN operates across the Universities of Brighton and Sussex and within the wider Brighton and Sussex communities. It is supported by Pride in Brighton & Hove, the University of Brighton and the University of Sussex.
