Brighton's ever-expanding Fringe Festival is fast becoming one of the biggest cultural festivals in the UK, rivalling even Edinburgh for its cultural diversity and the sheer volume of quality events o... view profile
Forget pretending to be Steve McQueen and trying to ride your motorbike across the Austrian / Swiss border, this is the Great Escape 2008 style.
Yes Brighton’s unique music festival is back and the line-up is breathtaking. (And not just because there are so many quality bands playing we can hardly draw breath).
The Great Escape is undoubtedly one of the most diverse and extensive music festival line-ups we‘ve seen in 2008. Highlights so far include live moments of genius from bands and artists such as The Ting Tings, The Futureheads, The Fratellis, Laura Marling, Friendly Fires, The Automatic, Soweto Kinch, Cadence Weapon, Beardy Man, Inner City Dwellers, Mumdance and The Subways.
This year's international angle to the festival will see Norway in the spotlight with Ida Maria, The Lion Heart Brothers, Ungdomskulen and Sigh & Explode already booked. Commenting on this Norway leaning decision Jon Mcildowie of the Great Escape Festival said "In the years we’ve been running The Great Escape we’ve had some fantastic artists from all over the world, but one country we’ve always been able to depend on for cutting edge talent is Norway. With the launch of Music Export Norway’s London office this year and the emergence of some new and exciting bands we feel the timing is perfect to make Norway our lead country for The Great Escape Festival & Convention, 2008."
And if the line-up this year is lacking that one class act that is you and yours then don’t despair. Following the success of last year’s program of Alternative events, the festival is once again giving bands, managers, record labels and promoters the chance to showcase their acts at The Great Escape by promoting their own gig, club night or party during the festival.
