Brighton's best...

real city network news![]() Notice anything different about the site today?Thursday, 23 March 2006 ...no? We were hoping you'd say that! We are pleased to announce that we have just completed a major upgrade to the infrastructure that supports all the Real City Network and partner websites! The task was to migrate REALBrighton, REALManchester, REALLiverpool and REALSoho over to a brand spanking new server with as little disruption as possible to normal service... Real City Network has now finished installing a brand new server with one of the number one high capacity data centres in the country, and is now 100% UK based. With our archives of over a quarter of a million image files (125,000 images and 125,000 thumbnail images!) we also needed a big new hard drive. With 160GB we feel we've now got a bit of elbow room again! And with a 3GHz Pentium under the bonnet dedicated to serving us alone, you should already be experiencing the site as it was meant to be... What does this mean for you, our lovely audience? Well, it means getting your hands on our content at lightening-quick speed for a start! No more will the server have to trail off to Texas to fetch a photo every time you request it! No more battling with transatlantic cables and satellites! No more hanging around while a page takes 30 seconds to load... We've been working hard to make sure all the features of the site work properly in its new home, but please do drop us a note if you think you've found something that needs our attention! And obviously feel free to add messages of thanks to our chief technician, Timmy who has been burning the midnight oil to make sure there was as little disruption to the network as possible... Watch this space... as always, there are more big things just around the corner! your commentssaid by Timbo Hurrah hurrah hurrah! said by Lola_L I understand none of the big words, in fact you're bamboozling me with long syllables, but jolly well done... for whatever it means! said by BoyRobot Huzzah for the REALBrighton geekatrons! :) said by Doug Forget the quality, feel the bandwidth - fnar fnar. Now you have stuck another hard one in your slot you can really scream... fnar fnar. said by Doug P.S. Can you come and do my server now please :) said by Patrick I haven't been able to see any change at all, so it obviously all went very smoothly from the users' point of view. I bet it was really nerve-wracking for you at the changeover though. Well done! |
