The Sussex Beacon Half Marathon 2005...
review
Shorts and t-shirt weather this certainly was not, yet more than 2,100 people thought they knew better and turned out for the biggest ever Sussex Beacon Half Marathon!
The event goes from strength to strength: Registrations were up almost 30% on last year, and there were around 20% more runners on the day too. All this is very good news for the Beacon which reckons takings were almost £40,000. Faaaabulous! 140 volunteers and the St. John Ambulance made sure the event ran smoothly with entertainment provided along the way by Varndean School Samba Band and the Patcham Silver Band.
Congratulations to Ross Grant who took the men's trophy, coming in at 1hr11m, and to Chris Maylor, the first woman steaming in at 1h22m. And, of course, congratulations to everyone who took part.
REALBrighton was there with cold hands poised over shutter-release buttons, and brings you a few memories of the day.
If you felt it was high time you got into shape then put next year's event into your diary: Sunday the 19th of February 2006. We'll see you there!
