Chapter 2 - In which, dear friends, we find the good ship FTPA hitching up her soiled skirts, skipping a mere sharpened 50p’s throw around the corner, and bedding down in ladylove burrow the Candy Bar.

Yes, after a giddy 18 months under Storm’s lascivious eye DJs Wanker and A-Dam have a new home. And what a welcome a sold-out club bestows.

All manner of pretty little queers jiggle about, new faces and hoary old punters alike, including me and that guy who works in the post office up the road (who I accost with questions like “How much would it cost to post my girlfriend to Norway?" until he gamely offers to sell me a stamp). Sadly no sign of popular busty door-lady Tamzine, but we do meet a Dutchman who sits atop the pool table reciting poetry to us.

The usual delirious electrotrash caresses our aural cavities - Miss Kittin, Peaches, Le Tigre, Alter Ego, LCD Soundsystem, Soulwax, Mylo, that nice Playgroup mix of Franz Ferdinand... It’s all rather good really, fair puts a jaunty spring in your step.

DJ Wanker beams over the proceedings like a benevolent saint of homo electro. “We won’t do it! We won’t do it!" he cries, however, when we request the Revolting Cocks’ ‘Beers, Steers and Queers’. I bet that nice Richard Smith would’ve played it...

Still, beloved gaylord anthem ‘Male Stripper’ does show its smutty face, and ‘Kish Kash’ is dropped in as a Pavlovian bitchslap commanding us to dance like loons, to which we duly oblige. By the end of the evening my trainers are caked in the filthiest disco juice seen for quite some time.

Some most accommodating drinks deals mean vast amounts of fizzy pop are consumed and the next day we feel a little blue around the gills. But wait, it’s only sunday... phew... no blue monday then...

F*ck The Pain Away is now on the first Saturday of every month at the Candy Bar, 129 St. James' St. The next one is Saturday 2nd April 2005
