Who'd have thought it! Sandcastles on Brighton beach! But it's true... the first World Sand Sculpture Festival comes to town with an expected 200,000 visitors. You'd be mad to miss it.

If you haven't heard already, there's an amazing collection of sand scultptures on Brighton Beach at Black Rock next to the Marina. They shipped in 10,000 tonnes of special sand from the Netherlands and 60 artists from all over the world carved their creations for two weeks before opening to the public.

There's a mixture of Egyptian style statues and temples, some with a subtle modern twist, others with a eerie gothic theme. The intricate detail achieved on some of the sculptures is just amazing and it's a wonder how some of them stay standing. So pick a sunny day, take a strole along the sea front and be dazzled by a little Egypt on Brighton beach.

Although entry is a bit pricey its well worth a visit the festival is open daily 11am-8pm, entry is £6.00 for adults, children 4-12 years £4.00, children up to 4 years free, concessions £5.

about Brighton Marina

It's perhaps surprising to learn that Brighton's marina is the largest in Europe with over 1,600 yachting berths. Opened by Her Majesty The Queen in 1978, the fortunes of Brighton Marina have been as up and down as the tide.

The next Brighton Marina date for your diary:
