The Cribs...
review The band makes musicWakefield trio of brothers The Cribs are the latest in a line of quality acts to emerge from the thriving music scene surrounding the city of Leeds. The band is known for their raucous live sets. Their new album, The New Fellas is packed full of catchy, melodic indie rock. Single Mirror Kissers is the band at their best: immediate but not hollow. The band makes music that sounds like the soundtrack to a drunken night out. They seem to capture British culture in a way similar to the how Blur or The Streets do. The band's reputation as an amazing live band gives them a lot to live up to, so did they disappoint? The Concorde 2 was packed to the rafters with indie kidz awaiting the band who were greeted with a rapturous reception from the audience when they arrived. Opener Hey Scenesters went down well and resulted in a massive amount of moshing from the enthusiastic crowd. Other crowd pleasers included Martell and Mirror kissers. The band at times appeared There was however, a feeling that this was a band just going to the motions. The band at times appeared slightly bored. This reflected on the overall quality of the gig. The set list was virtually the same as the Live in Leeds record that comes as a bonus with the new album. This is not to say that The Cribs are not a quality act, just that their set felt a little tired. It’s a shame considering the genius of their album. I’d definitely recommend that to anyone who is a fan of indie pop. It was by no means a bad gig, just a slight anticlimax compared to the expectations that I had placed on the band.
