Drag Ball 2005...
review A quiet Monday night in the glittering streets of Bright-Town but Feather boas (and as many sequins as you could throw a mascara stick at) filled the Cabaret Flagship which is the Queens Arms for this years Annual Drag Ball. The night was kicked off with Host and DJ Andy B twirling camp tunes and introducing special guest stars to entertain the glam crowd before introducing the judges... The QA’s favorite institution Betty Swallocks, Richard from the R-Bar, The sassy and sexy Ms Joyride, The fabulous Trudi Styles (Transformation Tart... that's me!), the infamous Ricky Royalle, those two doubles of entendres Sugar & Spice, Violet Brater and the QA’s very own Beryl like you've never seen her before and looking like a young late Dockyard Doris. Some of the special guests helped to warm up the crowd (as though they needed to get warmer... the place was packed!). We heard from Sugar & Spice, The lovely Stuart T, Trudi Styles (that's me again!) and Betty Swallocks. Nine contestants braved the stage to compete for the best DragQueen Factor for Dress/Costume. The Dragsters were as follows (in order of appearance in the photos) Ms Trixie Lixie, Ms BJ, Dame Shirley Bassey, Michelle, Angelica, Vivien, Dame Margot, Ms Craig and Desdemona Deville. As you all know there can only be one winner! Third prize went to Dame Margot, second to Angelica but the ultimate winner was Dame Shirley Bassey going away with the cash prize and a bottle of bubbly. She entertained the crowd with Big Spender and an Acapella Kiss Me Honey Honey (watch this space). Well done to all who took part! If you think you have that Drag Factor you now have a year to plan it - so kick on your cha cha heels and chuck on some glitter. We can't wait for next years ball!
