Brighton's best...

Southampton 2005...
review After a fun night out playing it straight at Hed Kandi on Friday with two other Brighton boys, another four REALBrightoners turned up on Saturday evening to delight in Southampton's gay scene. After all, it's been a long, long time since REALBrighton's intrepid scene reporters last visited Southampton. The merry band of seven of us waltzed down to Oxford St to dine at Prezzo's, a lively little Italian (perhaps not as lively as we all were though!). Good wholesome food with a side order of dishy waiter. A skip and a jump (and a click of the heals) and we found ourselves at the end of the road at the London Hotel, a traditionally styled and welcoming pub where we had a quick drink and a shot of Sambucca, obviously still itrying to play it straight from the night before. Unfortunately, no time to soak up the atmosphere tonight - we were running late... so on to H20 in Beavers Valley [er... Bevois Valley, surely? Ed.]. This newly opened watering hole is a cute little bar complete with pool table and more friendly faces (I'm sure someone snogged him last time we were in Southampton!). A short walk down the road, past the now straight M Club (formaly Magnum and longest running gay club in the country but alas - no more) we arrived at The Edge. Now the only gay (club) in the village. The place was already packed by the time we got there (unfortunately I'd lost all sense of time so I've no idea if it was 11pm or 1am...). For those new to the club, downstairs you'll find a bar and dancefloor decorated in what I can only describe as shiney pebbledash. Upstairs is a lounge area with its bare beams, leather sofas, pool table and bar number two. And at the back is The Box open Fridays and Saturdays with another dancefloor and a third bar. There's also a patio area which is open when the weather suits for cooling down. A very good night with a friendly crowd... some very friendly! I'm sure we'll all be back there for more soon. Glad Bill found his way back from Winchester in the end...
