Miss Fits comedy weekender...
review It was Friday night and it was comedy week. I just wanted to go and get drunk in a gay bar, but my girlfriend wanted to get out of Kemptown for once and do something cultural and comedic. Not opposed to her idea – yet unwilling to let her win entirely- a night out at the Marlborough Theatre, for the MissFits comedy show seemed the perfect compromise. After a quick drink in the cosy theatre bar at the Marlborough, we headed upstairs as soon as the doors opened to bag a table on the second row (a good view with minimal risk of being dragged on stage!) The venue quickly filled to capacity, the complimentary wine appeared as promised and the buzzing crowd waited eagerly for the performance to start. I was somewhat relieved we had chosen the second row when the compare, Eli Fleli arrived on stage armed with a speculum – and we knew from then this was not going to be a run of the mill comedy night. The show had something for everyone with a little stand up, bizarre dancing a rude quiz and a peculiar pop performance. The highlight of the show for me was Prof. McAbre with his bed of nails, combining conjury and comedy to great effect. As the night came to an end I was surprised how quickly two hours had flown by and was certainly glad to have tried something different on a Friday night.
