One, Two, Three O'Clock, Four O'Clock Rock...
review
With the first weekend of the new relaxed licensing hours, we thought we ought to capture the moment with a marathon session around some of the bars that are open that little bit longer.
It seemed only fitting that we wore our pyjamas, although there was a mixed reaction in 'getting the joke'. Which was worrying if people thought we would dress like that for a night out...
We started out at bulldog, where we were presented with a card to get stamped to prove that we had been there through the night. We then popped into the Marine Tavern for a quick friendly pint. Off then to Star Inn for some big boys stuff. Only half-past ten now...
We had a quick stop off at Queens Head (giving the camera a rest), before heading off to Amsterdam Bar, where we were offered a few shots of Jack Daniels before heading on. Ooooh. Slightly woozy now.
Back to bulldog to get our cards stamped before getting Kinky Dangerous at Envy (now Charles Street Club). A quick shimmy around the dance floor before trying out R-Bar. Good - they do food at 3am, so a bacon sarnie for Huw to keep him going.
Finally, we headed back to Bulldog until dawn, with a final stop back at R-Bar at about 10:30am.
Phew!
We were very curious to see how things would pan out - and I think full marks go to the Bulldog, who were still rocking first thing in the morning! There's even talk that they'll repeat the opening next weekend. We'll let you know, although I'm not sure we'll be repeating our weekend for a while.
It was good to see that everyone was behaving impeccably and there didn't appear to be any trouble in any of the venues or on the street in the St James' Street area.

about Marine Tavern

The Marine Tavern is a small and cosy traditional pub (remember those?), where the bar staff are friendly and so are the customers. Predominantly gay men prop up the bar while camp music plays without intruding into conversation. With a pub quiz every week and various fundraising activities on the odd occasion, this establishment is how a gay pub should be - free from attitude and part of the comm...
