Into a Brighton 2006...
review
If old aquaintance should be forgot, you should have got yourself out into the Brighton New Year Melée. Friendly strangers and strange friends were all out at a whole host of parties around town to bring in 2006...
In slight Anneka Rice mode, we braved the rather changeable weather to get round as many of our favourite venues as we possibly could in the time alotted (what with the generously proportioned Benjamin getting ready to bing his bong). Everywhere, the crowds were determined to party into the New Year.
From sumptuous buffets (Queens Head, Joogleberry Playhouse, Amsterdam Bar) to packed-to-the-rafters mayhem (Star Inn, Bulldog, Queens Arms).
The two main girls' venues, Candy Bar and Marlborough had those girls and their friends in fine fettle.
For those who wanted to be in the bosum of things as the year turned, then our two little gems, Marine Tavern and Vavoom meant that midnight hugs weren't very far away.
The two main club venues, Revenge and Charles Street Club, kept the dance floors moving into the early hours.
Phew! Thanks to all the lovely friendly people out there, to the guv'nors who helped lubricate the proceedings with the odd pint and to Auld Lang Syne - who-ever-the-hell-she-is....
More stories are coming into the office - so keep coming back for yet more New Years' Eve pics.

about Marine Tavern

The Marine Tavern is a small and cosy traditional pub (remember those?), where the bar staff are friendly and so are the customers. Predominantly gay men prop up the bar while camp music plays without intruding into conversation. With a pub quiz every week and various fundraising activities on the odd occasion, this establishment is how a gay pub should be - free from attitude and part of the comm... A traditional boozer, The Star has everything a self-respecting man's man should want. Sport telly, pub grub and plenty of ales on tap - it's no wonder that this is now one of the firm favourites for bear and cub types from Brighton and beyond. Today for The Star Inn: Quizgo

about Vavoom Video Bar

Vavoom has a modern, stylish interior but still manages to provide a warm and cosy feel. They’ve managed to squeeze in an incredible amount to utilize every inch of floor space, and on sunny days they open up the large front window to extend the drinking space onto the pavement outside. about Amsterdam Bar & Bistro

The Amsterdam occupies a prime position on the seafront, overlooking the Brighton Pier (the one that's still standing) and in the heart of the busy St James' Street / Kemptown area. A hotel, bar and sauna all under one roof, with a prominant terrace at the front, its the natural place for everyone to make a beeline for the minute the sun peeks through the clouds in the summer.
