Hard South with Proteus & *Ting*...
review First Friday of the month means it's time for your monthly dose of the hard stuff with the first Hard South at the revamped Honeyclub. What better way to celebrate than by welcoming the two times hard dance DJ of the year Proteus and the lovely, sexy, mad as a box of badgers on a spring *Ting*. The music was awesome too, The residents Krunchie and Twisted took care of the first half of the night, with suitably crunchy and twisted sets respectively. A few people began to get a bit restless waiting for the main attraction though and you could almost feel the tension in the air as Proteus took to the decks at 2 a.m. to a huge roar from the crowd. With his bizarre appearance and infectious head banging enthusiasm Proteus treats the decks like a rock star treats centre stage at Wembly Arena and when he climbed on the speakers, towering above us, fist punching the air and screaming it was hard not to get swept up in it. The music was awesome too, rock hard, twisted with dramatic string-laden breaks. Following this was no easy task but who better to do it than *Ting*. She'd spent a lot of the night dancing like crazy with us on the floor and as they switched over Proteus lifted her high in the air with one arm raised. Kicking off her set with the hypnotic chant of 'badger, badger, badger, badger, badger, badger, mushroom, mushroom' she then whacked the cross fader over to a breaks track, climbed up on the decks and treated us to a display of her unique dancing abilities. This craziness contined long after 4am, during which time she danced, sang, climbed all over the DJ booth and of course played some fantastic hard dance music. Madness and mayhem - just how we like it at Hard South!
