So many places to go, so many things to do! The evening's selection of activities across town was immense - and for those of you who enjoy a hint of live music on your nights out, there really was nowhere better to spend the night.
Playing to a faithful audience of local live music fans as well as some visitors down for Pride, were four quite amazing bands. First up were Cheap Hotel, reminiscent of the Sleater Kinney ladies as they thrashed their way through their set - perhaps enjoying themselves just a little too much judging by their facial expressions! They were followed up swiftly by The Performance - jerks and jives a plenty... and that was just the audience.
It was however the Ping Pong Bitches who really got the crowd going. Having clearly come along way since this time last year, not only has their image developed for the better but also their stage presence. With raunchy dancing backed onto their electro-fused pop, those who'd made the effort to turn out for the show were handsomely rewarded in the form of these fine bands.
Having caught half of headliners Chicks on Speed napping backstage, I wasn'?t too sure what kind of a performance they would muster. Appearing well into the early hours and performing to a somewhat dwindling crowd, they made what they could of the situation and soon brought the Concorde back to life. With obvious comparisons to Le Tigre in all respects - overwhelmingly colourful eye makeup and terrific outfits to boot - the only area lacking was their collection of songs. ?We don?'t play guitars? was of course saved until the very end of the set and put spirits soaring once again before DJ Pookie returned to the decks to deliver some well chosen tuneage for the rest of the night.
