Krater Comedy Club...
review
What better way to round off a lively Pride weekend than with a bit of comedy? Welcome to Komedia - the only place I've seen bottles on the wine list described as having a hint of flint. What's next? Lashings of damp gramophone records with a twist of mauve?! Anyway, the place looks sooo much nicer since the recent refurbishment, and although things can sometimes get a little 'cosy', that only adds to the charm...
The lovely Brummie, Karen Bayley ('it's not an accent - it's a contraceptive') warmed us up and kept us highly entertained during the in-between bits - not a mean feat in itself, considering everyone had just been to the bar before she came on. Yet another lesson in not-sitting-at-the-front as she did the obligatory compere turn of heckling the audience, much to everyone's amusement.
First up was Dave Hadingham, who in his lovely paisley shirt, did indeed look a little like the love-child of Oliver Reed and Laura Ashley. However he treated us to a slick, unrestrained routine, including a delightfully detailed exposé of female menstruation. Any shroud of denial I had previously wrapped round myself is now in tatters and blowing in the breeze.
Next up was Cole Parker (think excitable children's presenter on espressos), who put on a lively set - so lively in fact, that he moved a little too fast for our photographer. Note to self: bring tranquilizer dart to next gig
Last up was Micky Flanagan, rounding off the evening with a jaunty, confident act - it's a nice change when they don't let the punchlines drive the whole performance - and he kept us laughing throughout.
As usual, the evening can be highly recommended - a bottle or two of 'flint' wine, some tangy nachos, and someone on stage trying to make you laugh - perfect!
Oh, and apologies that some of the pictures have come out like they were taken on a could-have-found-me-in-a-christmas-cracker camera, but it's jolly dark in there!
