The Lemonheads...
review
It was quite worrying to see the lack of people in the venue as the show started with Trent taking to the stage. The band ploughed on however, seeming to enjoy the experience and performing some good material, especially their more laid back songs; these seemed to show the real talent of the band rather than just another group trying to conform to the eighties-influenced mainstream. Put Your Make-up on in the Morning was the highlight of their set.
The 747s were next on stage and the venue was beginning to fill out, although there must have still been less than one hundred people there – surprising considering The Lemonheads’ career span of more than a decade. The 747s mix barbershop harmonies, funk and blues to create an impressively unique and refreshing sound. Many of the songs sounded extremely familiar, in particular their finale Rain Kiss. The 747s are on their way up, so keep a look out for them.
By the time The Lemonheads arrived on stage, the venue was nicely full of people. The band played a hugely generous portion of old material for fans to sing and nod along to, including The Outdoor Type, Into Your Arms, Confetti, My Drug Buddy and, of course, It’s a Shame About Ray. At the end of the set, Evan Dando remained on stage, stickered acoustic guitar in hand as his band left him to perform some of his incredible solo material, including Why Do You Do This to Yourself? The band returned for an encore which included the song that the drunk punters on the right-hand side of the barrier had been shouting for all night, Big Gay Heart – great to hear live.
As the crowd cheered frantically for more, Dando returned to the stage for more solo work, despite the clock ticking past closing time. This was one of those atmospheric moments that couldn’t readily be recreated. It was extremely nostalgic to see The Lemonheads perform. Even their new material can take you back to the nineties a bit. The new eponymous album, which also features Dinosaur Jr’s J. Mascis on guitar, is definitely a buy for all fans of The Lemonheads and 90s rock music.

about Concorde 2

Okay, so you may have to walk a bit to reach it... but that just makes it that little bit more exclusive doesn't it! Located along Madeira Drive, the Concorde 2 is a sizeable venue with a huge variety of clubnights and bands on each month. Some top names, some great festivals, World Music... you name it. If you can't find something to pique your interest then you might as well pack your bags and head for Eastbourne... The next Concorde 2 date for your diary:
