Burning the Clocks 2006...
review
Celebrating the Winter Solstice and offering an annual antidote to the excesses of the commercial Christmas, Burning the Clocks 2006 was a family friendly seasonal parade.
Same Sky are masters at creating new urban rituals to replace traditional festivals in a fresh, non-superstitious way. For this event, people gather to make paper and willow lanterns to carry through the city and burn on the beach as a token for the end of the year. Despite lanterns coming in all shapes and sizes, none is better for its purpose than any other. All are unique to their maker and precious, but each is given up to be burned to greet the lengthening days.
The result? A superb parade, a big (though short-lived) bonfire, fun for all the family and some lovely Christmassy fireworks!
