NYE - Somewhere in the Universe...
review
Waking up on New Year's day to find some alcohol induced “thing” you didn’t expect to be in your bed is not an uncommon experience, however this New Year's day I happened to be sharing my bed with a million polystyrene balls. In fact they seemed to have taken over my house.
It was the remains of an outstanding intergalactic dance mission put on by Brighton’s top straight-gay-whatever alternative and electronic pop nights Somewhere in the universe there must be something better than man, Cavalcade of Pop, Nervous Twitch and Shibby Shabblers.
Legendary local Dj’s Astronaut, Pookie, Dolly Deluxe and Boogaloo Stu kept the crowd dancing until the early hours with the sharpest alternative, electronic and future pop sounds. Those too exhausted to dance anymore enjoyed champagne and a chocolate fountains in the chill out booths.
The night’s highlight however was the midnight blizzard of polystyrene balls that flew over the dance floor to Of Montreal’s Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games. Despite swallowing hundreds of them, the atmosphere was absolutely electrifying.
If that wasn’t enough, YouTube celebrity and local freelance astronaut David Wilson provided the night with outstanding visuals and Boogaloo Stu treated us to his most shocking and hilarious gameshow yet!
The club promoters and the staff at Po Na Na, pulled out all the stops to ensure this was the best NYE, with loads of surprises and phenomenal attention to detail! We were well and truly spoiled!

Nestled beneath the converted Old Picture House on East Street is PoNaNa. Full of eastern promise, the interior is Souk themed, conjuring an image of decadence, the Pasha’s harem and Turkish delight with a twist of the burlesque. Click for more info and complete listings for Po Na Na
