After a bit of a debacle involving the wrong venue, cycling in platformed flip-flops and a rock night, I arrive at the Old Market for an event organised by the Brighton and Hove City Council LGBT Workers Forum to help celebrate our community's diverse history.
Not surprisingly, I need a drink and very quickly find myself in the bar. People look great so I start snapping - and when I made it into the main room, I was amazed at how many guys and dolls having made the effort for the 1950s theme.
Nicky Mitchell and band keep the crowd entertained and, later, Marilyn (Helen Kane) presented a series of Workers Forum awards. The whole evening had a great vibe and ended with balloons everywhere and Richard Jones on the decks.
My favourite moment? Marilyn introducing the LGBT awards: “..that’s a sandwich isn’t it?”.
loved it!
