The last to put my Eurovision Party photos up, I was admittedly scraping the barrel with my 'tabloid-style' headline. However, there was no barrel scraping at this event tonight, which saw the PV packed to the rafters for their special Eurovision party night. Awash with young swedish girls - which raised many an eyebrow - the whole pub got into the spirit of things.
It seemed each entry was some sort of crossing of genres or personalities:-
With cheers for the Swedish entry (of course), The Ark, with their song, The Worrying Kind - it really was ABBA meets Status Quo with a touch of Shirley Bassey thrown in.
More cheers for poor old Scooch who were flying the flag for just Ireland and Malta this evening - a terrible shame as they really did tick all the Eurovision boxes tonight.
Many cheers went to Serbia, whose main vocalist gave an Ugly Betty meets power lesbian in sensible shoes approach and had the girls eating out of her hands - and had Huw winning his work's sweepstake. Much swotting up on Baltic State politics me thinks!
And, of course, Ukraine couldn't help but stir up much chanting and cheering as a sort of crossover between Elton John and Su Pollard (via Steps) - winning full Eurovision points for campery.
A fun evening for everyone, although perhaps marred by our very low score in the UK.
Might I suggest that if we're looking for a timetable for withdrawing from Iraq, it should be by next year's contest?
