REALBrighton review

This week the REAL City Offices are blessed with not one, not even two but THREE gorgeous CDs to rip onto the office iTunes computer and enjoy.

First to be unwrapped on Monday morning was a double-CD collection by REALBrighton superstars Kate Wildblood and Queen Josephine entitled Secret Disco...

We're not a hugely sophisticated bunch of music critics at the Real City offices, but we frequently find ourselves unchecking the little ticks next to albums - and equally we appreciate a good thing when we hear it. These two gorgeous CDs have been on repeat play for three days now... we're loving the chilled, sophisticated grooves, the basslines and the electronica. It's a beautifully rounded collection of tracks and deserves to be playing at any respectable post-club Champagne chill-out party. The girls have picked some fabulous remixes, as you might expect. We're absolutely loving the Soulchild remix of Bent's To Be Loved for example... very, very tasty indeed and well deserving of a spot on the album. We recognised most of the tracks in some shape or another, but none of it was old hat - each and every mix had a little extra kick to keep us on our toes! All gorgeous. More please!

As if a fabulous double-CD wasn't enough for one week, Brighton's superstar DJ has been hard at work and Goloka - Afterglow is now also ready for public consumption. For the uninitiated, Pete Haywood has long been a big noise on Brighton's clubbing scene with residencies all over the city and holding the headline spot at the biggest monthly party, Wild Fruit, for more than eleven years. Pete is joined by the fiesty Kasia whose distinctive Polish accent you'll enjoy picking out through much of the CD.

But you won't find Goloka being fed through the Fruit speakers... this collection of deep, sexy, sumptuous electronica is meant, we imagine, for the chill-out party, the lounge if you've poured yourself a large red wine and you just want to relax, the bedroom... or possibly for the bathroom if you're lucky enough to have a deep bathtub and plenty of time to relax into it. I'm thinking of taking it along to my next pampering treatment - it's very much the auditory version of a relaxing, sensual essential oil massage... so dim the lights, pour yourself a large glass of something smooth and velvety, sit back in your favourite comfy chair and let Goloka's ambient multi-layered soundscape wash over you...
