Okay. I can’t be bothered to be cool about this. In case you don’t know or didn’t realise who that bloke was hiding in the DJ box, he produced some of the greatest tracks of the late 70s and 80s...
Best known for his work with The Human League, including his sampling and remixing on Love and Dancing, he modestly brought his laptop to Candy Bar and produced a knock-out night of sheer delight.
Starting with Pete Shelley’s Homosapien, he ran through a fantastic set. Was that really an R’n’B version of Love Action at one point? The Stranglers, Buzzcocks and a great extended (48”?) version of Altered Image’s Happy Birthday kept on coming. And yes, he originally produced them all. For me, hearing him play The things that dreams are made of, the opening track of the Human League’s Dare album, was just the best thing.
It was also a huge privilege to have a chance to chat with such an interesting, unassuming guy who could easily have been so arsey given his track record, literally. A massive thanks to A-Dam and DJ W*anker for making this night possible.
FTPA: I don’t always like it, but I’ll always love it. As we keep on saying, it’s always different, always challenging. Sorry there weren’t more photos; I just had to put my camera down and dance. I had the best night out for a long time, in case you hadn’t guessed.
loved it!
