Peggy Sue & The Pirates...
review
As this year's Great Escape was selling itself with street gigs and secret unannounced shows all around town, we had the chance to check out Brighton belles Peggy Sue & The Pirates.
As if this wasn’t enough on its own, they also treated us to a secret gig under the train station in a back room of the Toy Museum. Just 40 lucky wristband holders were allowed access to this intimate one-off gig face to face with Katy and Rosa themselves. With offerings of Spare Parts and tales of just how naff it really is being Superman we were shooby-da-dooed through half an hour of aural bliss.
Described in the official Great Escape gig guide as ‘Cat Power given a chav makeover’ they were less than impressed with the ‘chav’ linkage but rather pleased to be published in the same sentence as Cat Power. Rockabilly blues and witty lyrics can be expected from these local girls.
Catch them in Brighton before they escape us to pastures new!
