Polysics...
review
Brighton often gets a good taste of the Japanese music scene, with The Albert often playing host to the country’s touring live bands. The music is usually fun, lively and poppy, with Polysics being no exception in leaning towards catchy and energetic nu-rave territory.
Mr. Kamikaze opened tonight; a young UK band with some promisingly catchy tunes under their belts. Unfortunately some of the vocals seemed a little off key this evening, but that could have easily been down to sound problems. This band really show some potential; they put a lot of energy into their music and it would be worth them being given another chance to impress the crowd at another live show.
DJ Scotch Egg was popular with the Japanese-music-loving audience, hyping them up with extremes of cheese from electro versions of musical songs to Bon Jovi karaoke. By the time Polysics came on the stage, the crowd had successfully been worked up into a frenzy.
Wearing their signature luminous orange jump suits and shades, waving glittery pom poms and even playing a bit of recorder, Polysics are a really quirky, energetic band; much akin to the music they produce.
The band, consisting of guitar, vox, drums, bass and synths, pleased the crowd with songs from across their many albums including crowd favourites I My Me Mine, New Wave Jacket, Baby Bias and Peach Pie on the Beach. All great for putting on really loud when you are ecstatically happy and need to dance it out of your system. And also, as proven tonight, the kind of music that makes a wave of uncontrollable body movements spread over the audiences at their gigs.
