The City of Brighton Gay Men's Chorus presented two nights of musical mayhem hosted by Lola Lasagne and Lorraine Bowen. We were treated to choral takes on Kylie classics, a collection of rousing sea shanties, gorgeous cakes and tea in the interval, the first performance of Lorraine Bowen's own arrangement of Tainted Love (which raised a huge cheer from the audience and was absolutely superb!) and the world premiere of the introduction to "Are You Being Served - The Musical" in which the audience were invited to take part.
The highlight of the evening, though, was surely act 4... The chorus took us through all the best bits of The Sound Of Music - with a hysterical abridgement of the plot read out by Lola (aka Maria). Not only was the music fabulous - it was, in most cases, very very funny. When Lola started singing "I was seventeen, going on eighteen..." (with raised eyebrows!), and possibly one of the oldest members of the chorus took to the stage to join her... I couldn't quite tell if he was singing "I was seventy, going on eighty"!
A most enjoyable, highly polished evening of entertainment!
loved it!
Congratulations guys. Very sorry we missed it, we were very busy reminding ourselves how much effort goes in to these shows. Hope we can send a delegation next time.
Sincerely,
Jonathan,
