The Revenge Cabaret Tent 2007...
review
This year marks the end of Lola Lasagne's reign as Queen of the Cabaret Tent at Brighton Pride... there's nothing like leaving on a high though! The afternoon was faultless - with act after fantastic act, brought together beautifully as only Lola can. The crowd couldn't get enough...
As has become traditional, Lola has written us a review of the afternoon which we post here - with our thanks for all her hard work over the years for making the Revenge Cabaret Tent so special!
Lola writes...
"WOW! As Sam mentioned, there is nothing like leaving on a high, and as the amazing pictures show, I certainly did that, alright!
The day was just superb. From the gorgeous weather to the fabulous atmosphere in the tent from 2pm until the last notes of 'A Little Respect' sang by the Dame Edna Experience.
Every act pulled out all the stops to put on the best show possible, as they do every year. Personal highlights of the day include Topping & Butch being able to perform at Brighton Pride for the first time in 4 years, Sandra just for being Sandra, The Boy George Experience, singing with Dave Lynn, and of course, The Dame Edna Experience.
It's not been an easy decision to make, giving up the running of the tent, but as I said on Saturday, I really don't think that I can make the tent any better. And some of the crap that has been dealt in my direction, from a small band of people, over my organisation has unfortunately finally become too much to bear.
The absolute cream of the gay cabaret circuit have been present on that stage since I took over in 2002, and it has been an honour and a pleasure to work with them all. During my tenure, we said goodbye to H.I.H Regina Fong and Dockyard Doris, as the Revenge Cabaret Tent turned out to be their final perfomances in Brighton. Regina and Dame Edna Experience have provided the perfect finales to the day leaving the crowds on a high.
I must also thank Team Lola: Helen, Rupert and Adrian (who sadly couldn't be with us this year) for their loyalty, hard work and faith over the years. None of it would have happened without you guys!
And of course I must thank you - the crowd - the people we all do it for! They say you're only as good as your audience, so we've been absolutely phenomanal every year! You play such a big part in creating that special atmosphere.
Finally, I must thank the Brighton Pride board for their faith, trust and support over the years. Although I won't be involved with the tent next year, I am not stepping back from Brighton Pride - and will be continuing all the work I do with other projects, as well as taking on some new ones.
Congratulations and the best of british to whoever takes over, and as I said on Saturday, in the words of Cher, on her farewell tour - "Follow this - you bitches!"
