They came, they saw, they conquered.

Another triumph for DJ W*nker and the FTPA boys and girls - at least twice as many people as the opening night, which pretty much filled the place up. It was raw, a bit dirty, a little bit sexy, and just a bit GOOD.

Slightly softer on the music policy tonight was a good move, (far kinder on my poor old head on Monday morning ). It looks like this town might just have a decent Sunday night bash to finally get our teeth into, proper people - real music and nice little 'best kept secret' of a venue

A big move forward came from the mix this time - a nice spit of about 70/30% Boys and girls bumped up the atmosphere nicely. Which is to be expected considering the herculean effort they have put into promoting tonight. Sundays have always been a hard nut to crack - everyone is either tanked up after getting drunk in the afternoon and hecking a bad drag queen or trying to drink themselves into forgetting about Monday morning. The 9pm - 12.30am slot gives us an alternative to the pubs, and stops us going out clubbing and stumbling over the drunks and the dregs, and 'cos its all about the crowd and the music, you don't get the desperate last chance shag brigade so you can talk, and dance, and meet people and remember you have got a life after all.

The only real criticism I heard about last time was that there weren't enough freaks - and we had some absolute beauties this time, we also had a brush with local celebrity when the wonderful Dolly Rocket et entourage arrived at the end of the evening, fresh from the Brighton launch party for "Nine Dead Gay Guys" - looking rather svelte and glossy. I can confirm she is an absolute charmer in real life with a lovely way with words:

"Do you like em? All the boys love my tits."

The good thing about Storm is that place lends itself to this kind of evening. Two proper bars, a decent little lounge to talk in and a well placed dance floor means that you get lots of flexible space for talking, dancing and whatever. They've tidied the place up a lot recently, but there's still something really cool about that retro mirrored 80's disco look that makes me smile. Reminds me of the first gay Bar I ever went in the mid eighties "oop North" where the DJ tried to mix Hazell Dean with The Smiths.

As I stumbled home at about 1am - I passed the crumbling hulk that houses Revenge - choking on the stench of rancid chip fat, I looked up towards the flashing lights at the windows and felt the raw dull thud of Sunday night disco-hell - I smiled to myself and thought, "you poor fools, you don't know what you're missing".

Next F**k The Pain Away, Sunday October 17 - don't be a looser, get stuck in while its still hot.

ps - I've been told off by the editors for saying astonishing too often in my reviews, tough!
