The curtains open to the raucous beginnings of "Fear of Drowning" and bang!... it has instantly got me. This band mean business and are obviously having a great time proving it.
Yan (Vocals) sung every song with a soulful urgency which made it hard to take your eyes off him. But through the trees and sitting amongst the stuffed birds in a tin lizzie and old army uniform I found Aemon Hamilton (Keyboards) who, out of the blue, would don an enormous bass drum and go off strutting his stuff into the audience.
Their single "Remember me" (20th Oct 03) was extremely memorable and will definitely have me rushing to the shops. Imagine The Clash with a little Joy Division and a sprinkling of Killing Joke and you're halfway to B.S.P.
I think it was "Lately", their last song in the set, that Hamilton (Bass) took over the vocals. Even before he'd sung a note, he had the crowd hypnotised and in the palm of his hands, which put me in mind of Ian Curtis and Joy Division, especially with the machine gun precision of Wood on drums.
I can't praise this band enough, they have Charisma, vitalitly and a set full of short sharp shocks, in fact they're f***ing brilliant. Catch them if you can.
