review

The end is Nigh! This venue has seen its fair share of paint jobs and costly re-branding in the last three years but this was a big one... Zap is no more!

Over the last few weeks Brighton has been carpeted with a small forest of flyers, boards, emails and fly-by signs trailing from planes - letting us know about Digital, a new club in the arches.

This wasn't just name change with a few widescreen TVs and a new carpet, everything... everything has been removed, replaced, painted, swapped around and beefed up. Just a few days ago the place didn't even have a front to it, but everything seems to have fallen into place for the opening night.

A great deal of cash has been spent in all the right places: the lighting (already wow, and apparently more to come!); a big, crystal clear sound system that from the DJ box looks like a control center for some kind of crazy space ship - and a bunch of staff who seem very happy with it all.

It's 4am and some clubbers are already back home and in bed -but the party continues for Wild Fruit's new after party, "Suck It and See". There's a crowd gathered outside and Digital begins to fill quick. The smoke is painted a thick purple-red, the DJs are silhouetted by a set of LEDs that change in time with the music. The music sounds absolutely fantastic and 8am arrives all to soon!

Digital is most definitely worth checking out. It's exactly what this venue needed and long over due. I think the hype is pretty much justified.

about Wild Fruit

The monthly Wild Fruit is undoubtedly one of Brighton's clubbing institutions. Always glamorous, always packed and always great music from resident DJs Pete Haywood, Neil Duffie and friends. The night is often punctuated with stage acts, muscly dancers, regular live big name PAs and guest DJs such as local superstar DJ Norman Cook... it's NEVER a dull party!
