review

The Pussycat Club is well renowned for its wacky themed nights out, attracting hoards of clubbers with that need for a club night with that extra oomph! This month’s ‘Spellbound’ theme was in preparation for the forthcoming Halloween celebration, encouraging plenty of inventive crazies. Arguably the best night out on the South Coast, every second Saturday of the month the Pussycat Club undoubtedly takes clubbing to a higher level.

As a Pussycat virgin, initially I was astounded at the effort that had been put in to making the night special. Friendly door staff donned their own costumes (raunchy devils and frightful monsters) and throughout the venue magical themed decoration was strewn across the ceiling and walls. In the main room giant glow-in-the-dark stars hung from the ceilings and rose vines draped over the high beams.

Although not all are dressed in themed costume, the crowd was an extremely welcoming one. Most dress relatively moderately, with a few that really do go the whole nine yards… transvestites, gay fairies, the infamous green bearded clubber or two – you’ll find them all here. Ghouls and ghosts, wizards and witches, vampires and vexed kittens... the madness!

In the main room The Disco Brothers presented some tech trance with topless male dancers (and bikini clad girls) with warped images played onto the large screen at the back. The second room boomed with underground house whilst the back room chilled with eclectic sounds (though mostly consisting of black orientated soul and reggae, beautifully done). The night goes quickly when you’re dancing, so make sure you check out all three rooms and select your place of boogie.

The Pussycat Club is a diverse, welcoming club night that attracts those who are either just a little bit different or those who crave that crazier side of life. Dress up, get down and prepare yourself for the next themed night: New York, New York!
