Ninia Benjamin Bends Double...
review
It may have been just a few short days into the new year, and people may have well been still suffering the effects of a festive season of overindulgence... but that didn't stop half of Brighton turning out for Bent Double tonight! The place was heaving, with all tickets long sold out and tables of friends enjoying their night.
Tonight's headline act was 3 Non-Blondes' Ninia Benjamin, who did a very convincing job of making us feel as though she hadn't got a clue what she was talking about - whilst at the same time managing to have us all in stitches... a great talent, and one which she manages to appear completely unaware of.
As ever, our hostess Zoe Lyons pulled the evening together with an unstoppable chain of stories and gentle fun-poking at her audience... and as ever - even if none of the other acts had turned up - we'd have had a great night! That's not to say that tonight's line-up wasn't fabulous too though of course!
Sally Ann Hayward's gentle but sharp-witted take on life in Bristol went down a treat with the crowd, but for our table it was Chris Neill who stole the show tonight. I managed not only to completely fail to remember to take notes, but also - having rushed home for a new battery for my camera, also completely forgot to take his photo... I was far too busy enjoying myself! His stories within stories within stories were a kind of cross between Harry Hill's mind-twisting tales with a distinct Alan Carr campness about him... endearing, shocking and amusing in mostly equal measure! A real treat of an act!
It goes without saying that it was another great night at Komedia... well, we would say that as proud sponsors of Bent Double... but obviously you all agree or the night wouldn't continue to be packed with happy punters month on month!
