Tonight was a night of queer comedy and music downstairs at Komedia, funded by a Pride grant and with proceeds going to Brighton's Ourstory Project and the Women's Centre.
The night kicked off with our compere Nicky Mitchell, complete with requisite guitar, singing requests from the audience. Nicky managed to shoehorn requests together with often unusual and extremely amusing results... my favourite being Ain't No Sunshine as sung by Julie Andrews!
Next up was the rather fetching and very talented K Anderson who strummed us some fine tunes about things as varied as getting over the winter blues to his t-shirt collection. Really fantastic voice!
Al Start has been working on a new album with the Brighton Museum... an unlikely combination perhaps - but one that uncovered some great stories and subsequently some great songs! Did you know, for example, that we had a mystery chocolate-cream killer in Brighton in the 1870's?!
Nicky popped back on and also has her fair share of local stories - relating the time that Nina Simone once demanded £10,000 in cash before she'd go on stage in Brighton - fabulous!
The night finished on a high with Eric Page and his hand-picked kazoo orchestra in silly wigs helping us all sing along to Delilah, followed by the hugely popular band Grey Matter who sang out the night in style!
loved it!
