Steve Bustin very ably hosted this night of camp comedy, raising money for Pride and helping keep the festival free!
Bravely opening tonight's shenanigans was local columnist and relative newcomer to the stand-up circuit, Jaq Bayles who broke in the crowd gently and made way for Norwegian Maria who hates popcorn and whose dead-pan delivery went down very well. Apparently a morgue is a Norwegian euphemism for a brothel - which undoubtedly leads to all sorts of confusion...
During the course of the evening we were entertained by no fewer than nine separate acts, which included a handful of brand new comedians - fresh from the Pride stand-up workshop at Komedia earlier in the week. Frenchman Sebastian Dunn left us with the image of Easyjet as a Pound Shop with wings, Richard Sawyer was the founding member of Alcoholics Quite Obvious, Irishman Wayne Connolly I don't have any notes about so I must have been enjoying him too much, and Keith Baldwin was apparently quite happy in his caravan with a dildo. Congratulations to these new acts for braving their first performance!
Other comedians included Martin Rowe, who gave us a brief history of gayness. Julie Jepson, who has often been accused of being Hovaphobic, was without a doubt one of the stars of the evening! She hosts a night called Funny Ha Ha on the third Thursday of every month... we'll definitely be checking it out. Tonight's headline act was Rosie Wilby who was well worth waiting for - suggesting that Pride in Brighton & Hove should really be considered an extreme sport, painting an all-too-graphic picture of trying to wee down a steep slope without falling down it yourself...
Congratulations to Steve Bustin for orchestrating such a fabulous night, and great that it was a sell-out success raising over £500 for Pride!
