REALBrighton review

This year's Sussex Beacon Half Marathon was the biggest and best yet. Clear blue skies and lots of winter sun provided perfect conditions for the 4,800 runners gathering on Madeira Drive for this annual event - proof that it is now a firm fixture in the athletics diary.

The course took in Brighton landmarks as the runners passed the Royal Pavilion, The Jubilee Library and the Theatre Royal, before heading up towards Hove, looping back along the seafront to the Easterly point at Roedean and then back past the Marina to the finish line on Madeira Drive.

Hopes were high for the fundraising opportunities this year with an impressive target of £120,000 and with such a great turnout of runners and supporters we'll keep our fingers crossed.

New for this year was the Youth Race where 11-16 year olds followed a 2.5km route. A small but brave contingency took up the challenge with The Right Worshipful the Mayor of the City of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Carol Theobald taking great pleasure in sounding the starter horn.
