REALBrighton review

As the votes were tallied from the thousands of you who filled in the online form or send in your paper ballots from Gscene, so the stage was being set for the 2007/8 Golden Handbag Awards night... one of the year's biggest local LGBT fundraising events!

As well as the presentation of some 20+ awards, the evening was awash with talented cabaret acts - all of whom gave their services for absolutely nothing. The evening was hosted by the fabulous Lola Lasagne who once again held the evening together like no other can! We were treated to performances from Dave Lynn, Maisie Trollette, the Drag With No Name, the Brighton Gay Men's Chorus and the Brighton & Hove (actually) Gay Men's Chorus, Ceri Dupree, a fabulous number from the alternative panto with Jamie Watson, Pooh La May, Maisie, Lady James, Pat Cruise and Dave Lynn, and for the finale the Xfactor's Unconventionals performed a few numbers.

loved it!

I loved this event! Not only was it the most fun I have had in a while but I got nominated as scene personality! And I can tell you, it's the nomnation that counts not the winning! The fact that enough people remembered you when it comes to voting is good enough for me!
Connie.

Golden Handbags 2008 - The Results

So on to the awards themselves... there were a few surprises, a few tears and lots of smiles tonight. This year we listed the five top nominations for each category and, as usual, the business or person with the most votes was awarded the coveted Golden Handbag! There were serious canvassing campaigns going on in some of the more fiercely contested categories - every vote counted this year, with one category having three winners just a very few votes apart.
