review

At just 18, Laura Marling is no stranger to the music scene. Her position within Noah & The Whale has allowed her the opportunity to release her debut album - Alas I Cannot Swim – with much awaited anticipation.

It was clear from the get go that many of the crowd had decided to spend the festival’s climax at the Sallis Benney theatre, as the space became filled to capacity, all eyes to the stage, waiting for Laura’s androgynous arrival.

Laura’s entire writing capacity is astounding, blowing away her listeners with a lyrical poignancy expected from a far old contender. Each song has been carefully crafted and sculpted, both lyrically and musically, resulting in Marling’s soft voice resonating deeply with a demeanour of sadness and utter fragility.
