The London to Brighton Bikeride 2008...
review
The weather was glorious! Just the right amount of sun, with just the right amount of cloud cover to save us from overheating as the day went on. Couldn't have been better!
The pubs were marvellous! I had no idea the route would take in quite so many local drinking holes as it did... or that we would stop for a bite and a drink in so many of them!
The company... well, it was all going well until we lost half of our group when we stopped for an unscheduled cake - but the other cyclists were very friendly!
The hills... I've never been so out of breath as at the top of Ditchling Beacon - but other than that, they're surprisingly okay and offer some spectacular views.
The whole experience... bloody fantastic! There's the obvious satisfaction of having completed the journey (albeit in a fairly lethargic nine hours!), and then there's the knowledge that you're raising a bit of cash for the British Heart Foundation, which can only be a good thing.
I think a day out on the bike amongst friendly people along country roads and with the sun shining down on you takes a lot of beating!
